There's a moral here somewhere..

If you are a writer, take heed: when the poem is in the post, the manuscript is with the agent, or the book is with the publisher, how long are you going to have to wait for a reply? In my experience, you should take the worst nightmare scenario, double it, add several months and you might be nearing the half-way mark.
How tempting it is to give in to frustration, despondency, love affairs, cat-kicking...
Don't.
Your job is to write, so keep writing.
Let editors, agents and publishers worry about publication. For the writer, all that's a secondary process. Best regarded as an act of God.
